A Jackson County man has been sentenced for the murder of his first wife.

46-year-old Barry Van Whitton was found guilty in the 1997 killing of 28-year-old Michelle Townson Whitton.

Prosecutors say he hit her in the head with a shotgun and then cut her face and throat.

He’s been sentenced to life in prison.

An arrest has been made after a 2-year-old child was shot to death in Middle Tennessee.

Authorities say 21-year-old Zackery Alexander intentionally shot the boy at a home in Clarksville October 4th.

The shooting also injured 22-year-old Brandon Jimenez, who remains in critical condition.

A Tennessee man charged with murder says he accidentally stepped on his baby.

33-year-old Curtis Morris testified that he was at home in Memphis with his son and daughter in 2009.

He said he heard a thud and jumped over the baby gate to attend to his 1-year-old son. That’s when he said he accidentally stepped on the child.

City officials have discussed getting rid of the glass bridge to the art museum.

Chattanooga now spends up to $20,000 dollars a year on repairs for the Holmberg Pedestrian Bridge.

The glass walkway keeps shattering. In the past, skateboarders were suspected. Now the city’s unsure what’s causing the damage. It could even be the way the glass is made.

The city is consulting with experts, but there’s no timetable for when the damage will be repaired.

The city of Chattanooga has settled a lawsuit with a pet store.

The city was sued after McKamey Animal Center raided The Pet Company at Hamilton Place Mall in 2011.

McKamey seized 82 puppies, cats and rodents, allegedly without a warrant.

The store had been accused of mistreating its animals.

United Pet Supply sued for $10 million dollars. The city has approved a $150,000 dollar settlement.
